Pastor Thornton G. Pitts’ Christian background began as a child being raised in the Pentecostal Faith while attending Calvary Pentecostal Church in Campbelltown, Maryland.
In October 1986, at the age of 24 years old, he was baptized in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ by Elder James Johnson Sr., from The Apostolic Church of the Lord Jesus Christ in Selbyville, Delaware. One week later, at the Friday evening service, an alter call was made by the visiting pastor, Elder Davis from Baltimore, Maryland; Brother Pitts received the Gift of the Holy Christ speaking in other tongues as the Spirit of God gave utterance.
Several months later his journey would lead him to a Frankford, Delaware sanctuary under the leadership of Bishop Jimmy Lemmon of Fruitland, Maryland. In 1988, two years, after being under the tutelage of Bishop Jimmy Lemmon, Elder Joshua Handy, and Elder George Feddiman he was called into the ministry by God through a vision on a Sunday morning and was subsequently ordained Deacon, later becoming, Minister Pitts. Unfortunately, after the passing of Bishop Jimmy Lemmon in 1990, the church was left without leadership. For the next 5 years Minister Pitts guided the remaining flock with spiritual leadership, ministering in the Saints’ homes, nursing homes, and evangelizing to bring “truth” to numerous churches outside of the Faith.
In 1991, by way of radio ministry, Minister Pitts was introduced to Bishop James E. Satchell of Cool Spring, Delaware. Through this relationship, Minister Pitts, received “Great Counsel” and teaching for 4 years. It was during this time, visiting Cool Spring, that Minister Pitts came to know Deacon Nathaniel Powell and was later introduced to Elder Peter Davis of Fruitland, Maryland. In October 1995, during an invitation from Deacon Powell, Minister Pitts again was reintroduced to Elder Peter Davis at Community Church of the Lord Jesus Christ of Seaford, Delaware. Following the obedience of God, Minister Pitts and the Saints under his leadership, submitted themselves to the leadership of Elder Peter Davis.
In May 2007, Minister Pitts was ordained by Elder Peter Davis and Bishop Joseph Dickens of Bridgeport, Connecticut to Elder Thornton G. Pitts. During that time, Elder Davis permitted him to attend Christian World College of Theology in Salisbury, Maryland which allowed him to receive his Associates and Bachelors’ degree in Theology. On June 29, 2019, Elder Pitts attained his Master’s degree in Theology and Ministerial Studies. In addition, Elder Pitts is a nationally licensed substance abuse counselor.
According to Elder Davis’ instruction, Elder Pitts was given full charge of all church affairs on February 13, 2012. However, Elder Pitts refused to take the title of pastor, humbly submitting himself to his Pastor, until Elder Davis fell asleep on February 28, 2016.
On August 12, 2023 Elder Pitts was Installed as Bishop Thornton G. Pitts by Bishop Willie Mac Bell of Plymouth, North Carolina of The Church of the Lord Jesus Christ of the Apostolic Faith.
